10. Why do I Teach?

-Attending an HBCU allowed me to meet so many phenomenal people. I worked as an English 1 tutor to incoming freshman for two years, and I noticed that students were struggling with writing and literature. After two summers, I realized that education systems were giving students the basic skills to get into college, but they were not giving them the skills they needed to stay and succeed in college. I wanted to teach so that I could help bridge that gap for students because every student deserves to walk across the stage on graduation day feeling confident about their ability to read and write no matter where life takes them.
